Monday, March 26, 2007

12. Some Kind of Discount Store

This was taken in Washington D.C. a few summers ago. It's a little grainy because of the zoom. I love hand-painted signs!

Thursday, March 22, 2007

09. Fork in Detail

Although the light is hitting this thing dead on, you can see all the little marks on the metal. There's a full array of teeth marks, collision between other forks, knives and spoons, the occasional drop to the floor, and I'm sure a lot more. History recorded!

Wednesday, March 21, 2007

08. Mascot for Strikes

That's right, this is what union strikes look like in NYC. This picture was taken on 16th Street and 8th Avenue.

It was raining and as I was shooting away with my little camera, I was lucky enough to get noticed by these tough guys. Notice the one on the right giving me the finger(s)...

Read more about the rat here.

07. La Cucaracha

Here's a little bug in a more than suggestive pose.

Monday, March 19, 2007

06. Midtown Worker

This was taken on my way to the MoMA about three months ago.

I like how the metal barricade on the bottom right, the worker and the steam almost make a diagonal line from corner to corner of the picture.

Friday, March 16, 2007

05. Frankness in Marketing

I don't think you can get more direct than this...

Nice dinner scenes inside.

Thursday, March 15, 2007

04. Reflection on Art with LEDs

This was taken in front of "Diamond Sea (2007)" by Leo Villareal at Gering & López Gallery.

Reflected, you can see "Field (2007)." This piece basically provided enough light for a decently-exposed photo.

My head looks somewhat extraterrestrial in this one.

March 19 Update: My friend Jeff decided to use my photo as a platform for his art. Check it out:

03. Tibor waiting

Here's Tibor waiting outside a restaurant on Broadway and 215th Street.

His pose there almost makes him look like Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the underworld.

02. Installation of Garbage

This is not really an art installation. They're garbage bags awaiting pick-up at the Isham entrance of the 207th Street station of the A train in Manhattan.

There were two MTA workers next to this "piece" and I asked them about it. They didn't really understand my fascination with it.

01. Elevator of Gallery Building on 57th Street

This was taken on my way to the Marian Goodman gallery where I saw a small show of photos by Jeff Wall.

In this picture, I like that the flash splits the frame in two and that the composition is very diagonal, very dynamic.
